I have had ideas left, right and centre for my inquiry about little wonders in my day-to-day practice that I would like to investigate and improve on. However, refining them seems to be more tricky, I want to get the ball rolling with an idea, so as not to delay working on this module and feel overwhelmed before the deadline date. I'm trying to keep in mind how these ideas could be researched and what would be the desired outcome.
Supporting SEN students in dance classes is definitely something I want to pursue whether that be for this inquiry or not. As I think it is a gap in my practice and is always a sticking point when I have a student who needs extra support. I wonder if looking into a specific technique or strategy that could easily be incorporated into dance class. Maybe incorporating a certain prop?
The other area from my little wonders was that of engagement, particularly in adolescents. I'm interested in investigating this further too. I find that my students are bogged down by so much homework and pressure over school exams, they then seem tired and unenthused about syllabus classes where the content of the lesson is naturally more repetitive and not so varied as free, non-syllabus classes. I wonder if I could engage with some theory or technique on maintaining adolescents' focus and interest and incorporate that into their syllabus classes.
Any suggestions of a focus on either of these areas would be welcome :)
I feel you on that!!! I have multiple ideas that interest me and its really hard choosing just one ! I agree with what your saying about the syllabus work! this is always harder as like you say there is repetition. I think looking into making it less strict is such a good idea !
ReplyDeleteWhat ideas are you looking at Melody? Yes I agree, it's a hard balance to keep it fun but still get the results the students and parents want in exams!
DeleteI had so many but finally landed on one that I feel pretty happy with. I want to look at if being a multi-skilled artist can help you learn future skills easier and if learning dance helps you better when starting circus or vis versa
Deletethat sounds very interesting :) I would have loved to have tried aerial hoop
Deletethe injuries from silks, burns etc always put me off the idea of that haha
DeleteI work at a special needs school and something that helps a lot of the students are visuals. This could be a first and next board with a picture stuck on of the warm up followed by the next activity. This can sometimes help the student process what they will be doing. Both are great ideas!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your help Izzy! Sounds like a great idea to implement :)
